Lauren,

We most assuredly echoed that woman's famous statements as we nursed our tired feet and ankles each and every night of this momentous walk. And yes, we did boycott buses as well :). Most importantly, our souls were rested by the peace which comes from knowing that you are exactly where you need to be, doing exactly what you have been called to do. The book of Esther states it this way: "Perhaps you have been called to such a position for such a time as this." I know you are finding that place in upstate New York.

I'm late in blogging yet enjoyed your chronicles of the day. We're seeing this experience through your eyes so your powers of observation and communication are appreciated. As you profile your co-walkers, I'm reminded of Vince Lombardi's quote, "The quality of a person's life is in direct proportion to their commitment to excellence, regardless of their chosen field of endeavor." The group's commitment to excellence is manifest by the march and non-violent behavior. I'm encouraged that you have been warmly received by numerous churches and people along the way, those who appreciate that "love" is an action verb and not a feeling or a noun or a box of chocolates. Passion in motion is powerful.
While we wish the march had quick transforming effects on powerful people who can make positive legislative changes, we must be reminded in the words of Tolstoy, "The two most powerful warriors are patience and time." Make sure you welcome these two warriors on your walk, as I'm sure you have done.

A 70 yr. old lady who joined Martin Luther King in the Montgommery bus boycott walked to work everyday. When asked if she was tired she said, "My feets is tired, but my soul is rested." Love you Matt. May your rested soul prevail over your tired feet. Muah
